Good news and bad news about the Cock-of-the-Rock

Bird SpeciesThere is a good news and a bad news about the Cock-of-the-Rock.
Bad news.
The research station of STINASU near the Voltzberg and the largest known leck of the
Cock-of-the-Rock cannot longer be used by tourists for overnighting. Climbing the mountain before sunrise is no longer possible. People who want to see the
Cock-of-the-Rock will have to walk 3 hrs to the research station, then after a break one hour to the leck and return the same day to the river. I will still help people who want to go there, but I would not recommend this.
Good news.
It is possible now to fly from Paramaribo to Rochambeau, the international airport of French Guyana. This gives us the possibility to see the
Cock-of-the-Rock in the Montagne de Kaw. After two hours flying, one hour by car and half an hour walking we can reach the leck. The leck is situated in the beautiful rainforest of the parque de Tresor. Probably this trip can be combined with a visit to the Marais de Kaw by boat, with possible sightings of the Hoatzin and the Agami herons. A few years ago my French friends discovered a colony of Agami herons of more than 2000 couples.
