Bird TourI am excited to announce that our 'standard 15-day tour', which took place from 15 to 29 April 2024, produced excellent results: we saw no less than 415 species of birds, which is a record for a 15-day tour!

Bird TourFrom August 22 to September 5, 2023, we had a standard 15-day tour with four birdwatchers.
The tour was very successful and we saw 350 species of birds, 12 species of mammals, not to mention many reptiles, butterflies and dragonflies!

Boat-billed Herons have been spotted in the heronry at the mouth of the Sommelsdijckse Creek in the center of Paramaribo. On 5 May, 5 Boatbills have been counted, all 5th calendar year or older. There were no nests yet or any signs of building.

Bird SpeciesFor more than 20 years there is a heron/egret colony in the center of Paramaribo near the mouth of the Sommelsdijckse Creek.
Cattle Egret always has been the most numerous breeder with several hundreds of nests, but
Little Blue Heron,
Snowy Egret and
Tricolored Heron are known to breed here from the beginning with in between 10 and 20 nests.
