Bird TourFrom August 22 to September 5, 2023, we had a standard 15-day tour with four birdwatchers.
The tour was very successful and we saw 350 species of birds, 12 species of mammals, not to mention many reptiles, butterflies and dragonflies!
Crested Owl, the Team, Tropical Screech Owl The one that left the strongest impression was the
Sharpbill. We had missed this species on the last 3 trips, but this time we had a very good view. Other highlights include the
Gray-winged Trumpeter,
Guianan Cock-of-the-rock,
Capuchinbird,
Red-billed Pied Tanager and of course Suriname's endemic
Arrowhead Piculet.
One of the participants, Mark Easterbrook, wrote a full report of the trip and has given us permission to share it here. We believe this report will help you get a better idea of what birding in Suriname is like.
